With funding from the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau and the Youth Development Commission, we organized 2 service learning trips for the tertiary students of Hong Kong to Yunnan and Guangxi respectively between December 2025 and January 2026. During the trip, the students participated in volunteer teaching, visited local rural households, and engaged in cultural exchange activities. They stepped into the mountainous rural areas to gain a deeper understanding of the living environments of local children, as well as the national poverty alleviation policies and development initiatives.
Through serving as instructors, the university students organized various learning activities and games for local primary school students, fostering their sense of responsibility and commitment to contributing to society. This experience also encouraged them to reflect on their own learning environments, cultivating gratitude and appreciation for their opportunities.
The exchange tour also included visits to various natural and cultural landmarks, such as the Dali Ancient City and the Yulong Snow Mountain in Yunnan, as well as the Longji Rice Terraces in Guangxi. Additionally, the students participated in cultural immersion activities of local ethnic minorities, such as tie-dye workshops and wearing traditional ethnic attire. Through these experiences, the students gained firsthand experiences in the rich natural landscapes and diverse ethnic cultures of the regions, deepening their understanding and appreciation of the country’s customs and cultural heritage.
