3rd Deignan Award for Responsible Entrepreneurship Officially Launched – Hong Kong and Macau SMEs Welcome to Apply!
The 3rd Deignan Award for Responsible Entrepreneurship Launch Ceremony and Panel Discussion was successfully held on 16 June 2026 at the Don Bosco Auditorium, University of Saint Joseph, Macau. The event was attended by Dr. Stephan Rothlin S.J., Chairman of the Deignan Award Steering Committee; Prof. Alexandre Lobo, Vice-Rector of University of Saint Joseph; and Mr. Fong Yik Chin, Steering Committee Member and Chief Preliminary Judge for the Hong Kong region.
This edition of the Deignan Award is co-organised by Wofoo Social Enterprises, Macau Ricci Institute, and University of Saint Joseph, with the Sustainable Business Lab of USJ’s Faculty of Business and Law as co-organiser. Commemorating the centenary of Fr. Alfred Deignan S.J., this year’s theme “The Ethical Edge” aims to recognise SMEs in Hong Kong and Macau that demonstrate how moral principles serve as a core competitive advantage, achieving outstanding commercial success while fulfilling social responsibilities.
Following the launch ceremony, a panel discussion on “Humanistic Management in the AI Era: Ethical Leadership in the GBA” was held. Moderated by Dr. Lei Weng Chi, Associate Professor at USJ’s Faculty of Business and Law, the session featured Mr. Chan Ka Ming, Co-founder of Meat the Next (2nd Edition Hong Kong Gold Award winner), and Mr. Calvin Sio, Founder of Chazence (2nd Edition Macau Bronze Award winner), who shared their experiences and explored how enterprises can ensure ethical and sustainable business practices in the AI era.
In conjunction with this year’s award, the new book “Responsible Entrepreneurship in Action: A Case Study of Deignan Award Laureates” will be published on 20 July 2026. Based on 18 in-depth interviews, the book analyses successful cases of past Gold and Merit Award winners, providing practical references for GBA enterprises and advancing academic discourse on culturally-embedded entrepreneurial ethics.
