Organized by Wofoo Social Enterprise “HK.WeCARE” and with the School of Nursing of Tung Wah College as the research consultant, the “Hong Kong General Happiness Index” survey has been conducted through a public survey since 2015, and has measured Hong Kong people’s happiness and depression index scientifically. The purpose is to understand the reasons behind Hong Kong people’s happiness (psychological capital, values, satisfaction with the external environment, self-assessment of health status), to review the past and assess the present and to make targeted recommendations.
Wofoo Social Enterprise continues to conduct its annual poll to understand the happiness index of Hong Kong people in 2024. The survey team also integrated data from the past 10 years to analyze and derive how people in Hong Kong have lived over the past 10 years. The data shows that after the financial crisis, social unrest and the scourge of epidemics, the overall happiness index of Hong Kong people has not returned to normal, and even the latest poll shows that Hong Kong people’s happiness and the internal “psychological capital” to support themselves to be happy are declining in all aspects.
The results showed that the Hong Kong Happiness Index fell to 5.63 out of 10, a new low since 2018. The study also indicated that the mental health status of Hong Kong people was not as good as last year, indicating that the mental health of the population is worthy of attention. In addition, the trend survey results reflected that depression in Hong Kong continued to increase year-on-year (3.3% in 2024). The results of the trend survey show a low level of happiness among young respondents. In 2024, the happiness index of the middle-aged group is the lowest. In addition, public satisfaction with 11 of the 13 external environmental factors also declined, mostly below the midpoint (5/10).
